An unprecedented security was witnessed at the Gandhi Jayanti function at Old Goa on Friday, as all roads leading to the Gandhi circle were cordoned off with only the dignitaries and invitees allowed entry.
Even the media persons were allowed entry only after producing their identity cards.
When questioned by The Goan over not allowing media persons without ID, a police official informed that they have been ordered to do so by the higher authorities.
“There is an apparent security threat for the function and hence entry to the venue is restricted,” the official informed.
However, reliable sources inside an intelligence gathering organization informed that there was specific information that protesters, who have planned protests to highlight various issues affecting the State, could march at the venue.
